The Hideaway Bingo Hall was opened in 1982 by the Woods, Catherine and David and the Johnsons, Elmer (E.T.) and Alix (Mom). Many of our patrons remember that first night, Thursday July 15th, 1982 which was sponsored by the Optimist Club of Whitby. One hundred and seventy five people visited us that night and we had a great time. Much has changed since that day but the Optimist Club of Whitby is still very much a part of the Hideaway today. Whenever we refer to the Hideaway it is not just the hall that is being referred to, The Hideaway collectively means the hall and the many sponsoring groups whose volunteers have helped to make this bingo hall a success and who continue to bring patrons the best bingo experience in Ontario.
In response to insurmountable parking problems at the back of the plaza, a new facility was built and The Hideaway Bingo Hall was relocated at 65 Sunray Street and opened there on September 26th, 1990. In the beginning the Hideaway Bingo Hall only offered evening games.
